No Brain. No Post. Sorry.

Hi! It’s Wednesday I’ve been pretty awful at keeping this schedule but honestly it’s been life guys. Life has completely gotten in the way. A couple of weeks ago we had Matthew hit us down here in good ole South Florida and although we were fortunate enough to barely even have any palm fronds fall from the sky, your girl Ohmyitskye managed to forget her computer charger in the shuffle of storm preparation. So go me!

And that is when this no post thing just got rolling. Last week I was super sick, so I did nothing but pretend to eat soup, take NyQuil and basically just die on the couch. So that also resulted in no posts for you. So sorry. I’m bad. I know. Please forgive me.

So actually I don’t even know what I came here to talk to you about. I guess not much really, my brain is still on recovery mode therefore its full function has yet to be restored.

Maybe on Friday we can talk about being sick on a plane and what you should do. Although is you are sick, please do not get on a plane. It’s only going to make your life way worse. Stay where you are and pout until you feel better. Only then should you drive to the airport, retrieve your ticket, go through security and board your flight. Just saying.

Alright well that is all folks. Thanks for stopping by. Sorry I have little to no travel advice for you.

Why Traveling is Better Than Xanax

Today we are going to talk about mental health. Even though we are in the middle of October.. Mental Health Week was this first week of this glorious pumpkin picking, sweater wearing month. I’m late, but what’s new. Let’s talk about it.

Hi my name is Kylie, I have dealt with anxiety and depression on and off for the last 5 years of my adult life. I’m not going to go into the depths of it because A. It’s a long story Β B. It is still a little bit too raw to get into too much detail and C. I’m just not ready to blast you with that type of melodrama over the internet. But just know that it exists in my world.

And in my world traveling has always been the cure. It is the thing that grounds me and brings me back to my center. Diving deep into a different culture gives me a chance to take a step out of my brain and peer into my soul. It is the most important thing I do.

Now I am not discrediting the pharmaceutical side of mental health.. because trust me Xanax is a god among drugs and really works when you feel like your heart might explode out of your chest. What I do want to bring attention to is the freedom that traveling gives me, when I am feeling the lowest of lows. And I have found that I am not the only one.

30 Seconds in Portland

Hi!

Portland. I was there. Not for long, but I was there. How do you do Portland in in less than 20 hours? Well this is how I did it.

10pm – Go to a brewery, we arrived pretty late so we popped into a pub for some grub and a drank.

1am?? – Go to sleep? Prepare for next day.

Slumber

9am – For my new internet friends please note that I am not an early riser. If I was though, I would have snuck away to check out Forest Park, it is supposed to be incredible. But since I am a zombie, until I have a fat coffee that is precisely what I did. So 9am..Have coffee (not from Starbucks) ask the barista what you should do for the day and then find yourself a cute delicatessen for breakfast. Latkes for errbody.

10am – Go to Powell’s Bookstore and go get a book! That place is like nine stories tall and an entire block long. I can guarantee they probably have what you are looking for.

11am – Go thrifting.. duh. It’s Portland.

12pm – Sit in a square; or in a park or something that is outside and nature friendly and surrounded by people. There are a ton. Pioneer Courthouse Square, O’Bryant Square, Chapman Square. Just to name a few. Click here for a full list. This would be a good time to start reading your new book.

1pm – Talk to a hippie trying to save the children on your way to find lunch. (This will take at least 20 minutes, but it is kind of crucial for the Portland experience that this happens.. so just do it.)

1:25pm – Go find lunch.. more specifically go find lunch at Food Truck Corner.. Do I need to explain why or do we understand each other? Here is the address.

2pm – Savor the misty weather of this yummy Northwest city. Enjoy your lunch. Walk back to your hotel and pack.

This is how you do a Portland overnight in less than 20 hours. What did I miss? How do you do Portland in less than a day?

Happy Friday friends.
