No Brain. No Post. Sorry.

Hi! It’s Wednesday I’ve been pretty awful at keeping this schedule but honestly it’s been life guys. Life has completely gotten in the way. A couple of weeks ago we had Matthew hit us down here in good ole South Florida and although we were fortunate enough to barely even have any palm fronds fall from the sky, your girl Ohmyitskye managed to forget her computer charger in the shuffle of storm preparation. So go me!

And that is when this no post thing just got rolling. Last week I was super sick, so I did nothing but pretend to eat soup, take NyQuil and basically just die on the couch. So that also resulted in no posts for you. So sorry. I’m bad. I know. Please forgive me.

So actually I don’t even know what I came here to talk to you about. I guess not much really, my brain is still on recovery mode therefore its full function has yet to be restored.

Maybe on Friday we can talk about being sick on a plane and what you should do. Although is you are sick, please do not get on a plane. It’s only going to make your life way worse. Stay where you are and pout until you feel better. Only then should you drive to the airport, retrieve your ticket, go through security and board your flight. Just saying.

Alright well that is all folks. Thanks for stopping by. Sorry I have little to no travel advice for you.

xx Kye

Why Traveling is Better Than Xanax

Today we are going to talk about mental health. Even though we are in the middle of October.. Mental Health Week was this first week of this glorious pumpkin picking, sweater wearing month. I’m late, but what’s new. Let’s talk about it.

Hi my name is Kylie, I have dealt with anxiety and depression on and off for the last 5 years of my adult life. I’m not going to go into the depths of it because A. It’s a long story  B. It is still a little bit too raw to get into too much detail and C. I’m just not ready to blast you with that type of melodrama over the internet. But just know that it exists in my world.

And in my world traveling has always been the cure. It is the thing that grounds me and brings me back to my center. Diving deep into a different culture gives me a chance to take a step out of my brain and peer into my soul. It is the most important thing I do.

Now I am not discrediting the pharmaceutical side of mental health.. because trust me Xanax is a god among drugs and really works when you feel like your heart might explode out of your chest. What I do want to bring attention to is the freedom that traveling gives me, when I am feeling the lowest of lows. And I have found that I am not the only one.

The Art of Doing Nothing

***Hello internet world! I know I have been MIA. We had the Matthew scare down here last week in South Florida, which meant I spent two full days preparing for one inch of rain. That being said, we are feeling super blessed that all we received were mild winds and a little water, our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that was affected. It’s heartbreaking to see how much damage this storm caused not only to our sister states but also to our Caribbean neighbors. Sending so many good vibes. Below is the post that was meant for last Wednesday, hope it is still semi-relevant. xx Kye***

An art I have perfected, is the art of doing nothing. Yes this is a travel blog. Yes I know, you are wondering why I am talking about doing nothing. But we are talking about the art of nothingness because it does pertain to travel, and it’s importance is immense.

30 Seconds in Portland

Hi!

Portland. I was there. Not for long, but I was there. How do you do Portland in in less than 20 hours? Well this is how I did it.

10pm – Go to a brewery, we arrived pretty late so we popped into a pub for some grub and a drank.

1am?? – Go to sleep? Prepare for next day.

Slumber

9am – For my new internet friends please note that I am not an early riser. If I was though, I would have snuck away to check out Forest Park, it is supposed to be incredible. But since I am a zombie, until I have a fat coffee that is precisely what I did. So 9am..Have coffee (not from Starbucks) ask the barista what you should do for the day and then find yourself a cute delicatessen for breakfast. Latkes for errbody.

10am – Go to Powell’s Bookstore and go get a book! That place is like nine stories tall and an entire block long. I can guarantee they probably have what you are looking for.

11am – Go thrifting.. duh. It’s Portland.

12pm – Sit in a square; or in a park or something that is outside and nature friendly and surrounded by people. There are a ton. Pioneer Courthouse Square, O’Bryant Square, Chapman Square. Just to name a few. Click here for a full list. This would be a good time to start reading your new book.

1pm – Talk to a hippie trying to save the children on your way to find lunch. (This will take at least 20 minutes, but it is kind of crucial for the Portland experience that this happens.. so just do it.)

1:25pm – Go find lunch.. more specifically go find lunch at Food Truck Corner.. Do I need to explain why or do we understand each other? Here is the address.

2pm – Savor the misty weather of this yummy Northwest city. Enjoy your lunch. Walk back to your hotel and pack.

This is how you do a Portland overnight in less than 20 hours. What did I miss? How do you do Portland in less than a day?

Happy Friday friends.

Go to Colombia!

As you all know, I took time to travel through part of the great country of Colombia this past weekend. So I made you a video.. I know I was supposed to bring you a video on Friday, but I didn’t.. so here it is now. I hope you enjoy! Can’t wait to tell you more about my trip later this week!

Until then, see you in Portland!

To Colombia We Go!

Hello. I’m supposed to be writing this post from New York, specifically Flushing, however my travel plans were disrupted by a few birds that decided life was just way too much for them to handle. They committed birdie suicide by flying directly into some very sharp propellors, which left me stranded in St. Thomas – poor me right? Right. I didn’t even get to leave the airport. Wah. So unfortunately, I am coming to you live from my couch, in not so sunny South Florida.

That being said apparently this is becoming the blog of weekly updates and unfulfilled plans.. plans that just do not quite make it to the drawing board. My initial post was going to be a quick “How To..” post about an over looked city with hella good dim sim; but since I never made it, you will never know. *MUAHAHAHA* cue villain serenade. Just kidding, it’s an important piece that I’m planning with a killer photog friend of mine Magthree ***Featured Below***!  So give it time.. give it time.

Florida Keys Livin’

Good Morning Friday! As you know Fridays are for videos, and this specific Friday is for videos of the Florida Keys! YAY. The fam-bam and I take an annual trip to Key Largo every summers-end. This summer our trip was almost canceled because of the lovely Harmine the Hurricane. Alas she skipped right over us! I’m trying to get better at this video thing, so bare with me for the time being!

However, if you do find my videos semi-barable, make sure you subscribe to my YouTube Channel to get all the current videos before anyone else!

Happy Friday! xx Kye

The Two Week Rule

Good Morning Friends! This is going to be a quick post since I drowned you with words last week. Think 500 words or less. Also I am in Atlanta and its 8am and I was not prepared to bring you top-notch info today, I was in The Florida Keys all weekend. Oops. Rest assured I have a video prepared for Friday, just no words to go along with it.

IMG_6402

Actually I intended on having words, but I had quite the day yesterday; after realizing I was working at 10am NOT 10pm, I spilled coffee on myself not once but twice, split my finger open, was blocked in by a construction vehicle when I was leaving for my already late start to work and got a run in my tights while en route to said job. So without further ado here is the two-week rule.

**Warning** Long Post.. Wanderlust May be Triggered

I am going to be 110% honest with you right now. I totally had another post planned for today. I was going to talk to you a little bit about who I am and why I have come up with this new concept for my blog..but I have changed my mind.

I have had a revelation in the last two weeks, a quarter life crisis if you will. This has caused me to shift, it has cause me to redesign the way that I live. I love my family, I love my friends, I love my home, I love that I travel for a living. However, lately I have realized how much I have truly missed writing and talking to my internet friends (i.e. you) behind a keyboard. And quite frankly, I miss the freedom to explore the world indefinitely.

Where Have I Been?

So.. I’m back. I’ve been thinking a lot about this blog of mine, that I’ve had all these years. This sad, neglected, blank space of internet that I have created. And it has been eating at my conscious. Unfortunately my laziness has trumped my actual desire to provide any type of information to my fellow travelers. For that I am sorry. And the worst part of all of this, is the sheer fact that I have been nonstop traveling for the last 730 days of my life (not including my 5 month hiatus to South East Asia). For those of you that are not interested in kindergarten math, that equates to two years. Yes. On July 28th it was  officially two full years that I have been consistently traveling without sharing any information. So thats cool. I have a stupid amount of knowledge and experiences that I should be sharing with you but because I am completely scatter brained, you know nothing.

All this time I have not been writing, I have been thinking (believe it or not) and analyzing. The question I keep coming back to is “How do you Travel?” So now I am here. And I am still wondering. How do you travel? The last few years has made me realize that we all travel in different ways. And thats good. It’s okay. It’s important.

So today we commence in the resurrection of this small, stunted space of a .com that used to be filled with information, stories and so much soul, and we rejoice; for Ohmyitskye has spoken and will now shine.

Welcome to: How do you Trvl by Ohmyitskye

Internet friends its time. I want to know How you travel. This is my latest quest. My latest adventure. My latest curiosity. I want to know. How do you do it? Do you travel in luxury. Do you travel like a gypsy. Do you travel for knowledge, experience, escape. Do you travel in Billabong board shorts or in Givenchy leather coat. In the air or on the ground. Let’s chat. There is no wrong way to travel. But I wanna know.

Over the next few weeks I will be sharing how I travel and some of the tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way. I am hoping to find out how you travel too. Please be sure to comment below and check back on Wednesdays for my weekly post. Or you can subscribe down below to get weekly updates.

Hope you all are as excited as I am! Thanks for reading.. and see you on the internet!
